Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov of the Department of Sociology at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Croatian Studies has been awarded a scholarship by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Youth for a professional development programme on Holocaust education, organised in cooperation with Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
The programme will take place in Thessaloniki from 24 to 28 August 2026. By decision of the Ministry and Yad Vashem, Assistant Professor Perkov was selected as one of the scholarship recipients.
Participation in the programme will contribute to the further development of the Department of Sociology’s teaching and research activities in the fields of Holocaust education, memory studies, antisemitism, genocide, human rights, and the sociological understanding of social violence.
The scholarship represents a continuation of the Department’s engagement with these topics, particularly through the collaboration between Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov and Professor Renato Matić. In May 2026, they participated in an important training programme in Berlin devoted to Holocaust education, memory culture, and responses to historical revisionism. Their teaching and research activities in this field have also received valuable support from Northwestern University in the United States.
