Lecture Announcement: From the Village to Politics – The Emergence and Activities of the Polish People’s Movement

This week, the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb, Department of Sociology, is hosting Polish scholar Professor Arkadiusz Indraszczyk, who will deliver a lecture for graduate students of sociology as part of the course Sociology of Social Change.

The lecture, entitled “The Polish People’s/Peasant Movement”, will take place on Wednesday at 3:55 p.m. in the Gospić lecture hall.

In his lecture, Professor Indraszczyk will present one of the oldest and most significant socio-political movements in Poland, whose roots date back to the late 19th century. The movement has historically represented the interests of the rural population and smaller urban communities, while developing a strong institutional structure ranging from political parties and socio-economic organisations to the media. The lecture will address the historical development of the movement, as well as its political and social significance for the Polish state and the broader civilisational development of rural areas.

Professor Arkadiusz Indraszczyk is a historian and political scientist employed at the University of Siedlce, where he serves as Director of the Institute of Political Science and Administration. He is also a senior curator at the Museum of the History of the Polish People’s Movement in Warsaw. He is the author of numerous scholarly papers and monographs, and his research focuses on political parties, social movements, European integration and political thought.

We invite all students, as well as all other interested participants, to join us for this engaging lecture and discussion.
