Erik Brezovec was born on August, 25th 1992 in Varaždin. He graduated sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies University of Zagreb. He got his PhD at the Faculty for Humanities and Social Sciences in 2021. The topic of his PhD has been Social Inclusion and Exclusion of Alcohol Consumption in Krapinsko-zagorska County.
In his work, he examines the relationship between society and technology and the sociology of knowledge, with a narrower focus on Luhmann’s theory of social systems and on how programmes, mechanisms, and forms of knowledge are stabilised through communication. He is the co-founder of the Cambridge Global Knowledge Nexus, an initiative focused on the social implications of generative artificial intelligence and on transferring theoretical insights into practice (education, public policy, organisations). Also, he serves as a guest editor of a special issue of the journal AI & Society (Springer) devoted to generative AI and society. He is a co-organiser of the annual Cambridge Generative AI in Education conference at the University of Cambridge.
Erik is the author of dozens of scholarly and professional publications and one monograph. He is a member of the Croatian Sociological Association, where he serves as Secretary of the Section for Theoretical Sociology.
