Biography

Antonia Ordulj was born on 19 December 1984 in Rijeka, Croatia. She attended elementary school in Novi Vinodolski and graduated from a musical comprehensive high school in Rijeka. In 2009 she graduated in the MA programme Croatian Philology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Rijeka. She speaks English and hold the FCE certificate by the University of Cambridge. During her studies she was a recipient of the state scholarship for gifted students awarded by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport.

In 2011/2012 academic year she participated in the Laboratory for Psycholinguistic Research (POLIN) at the University of Zagreb, working on the Croatian corpus of child language (HKDJ – Kovačević, 2002.). For several months she worked in Retkovec Elementary School as teacher of Croatian Language and form teacher. From March 2013 to February 2014, she was an associate lecturer at Croaticum – Centre for Croatian as Second and Foreign Language, where she taught semestral courses, summer school courses, and the Crash Course of Croatian language and culture. From October 2014 to January 2021, she was working full time at Croaticum, teaching Language exercises in Croatian as Second and Foreign Language in semestral modules and summer schools, as well as teaching Croatian language and culture courses for Erasmus students at the University of Zagreb. In February 2021 she was appointed Associate Professor at the Centre for teaching Croatian, Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb.

During 2014 and 2015 she participated in the Student corpus of Croatian as a second and foreign language project, funded by the University of Zagreb, whereas in 2016/2017 academic year she participated in the Computer structuring of the digital text of the Academy’s dictionary project, also funded by the University of Zagreb. Since February 2018 she is a member of the Croatian team on the enectCollect COST Action CA 16105 European Network for Combining Language Learning with Crowdsourcing Techniques. From November 2018 to February 2020, she was a researcher on the research project Textual Coherence in Foreign Language Writing: Croatian, German, English, French and Hungarian in Comparison (Research project no. IP-2016-06-5736, lead by the Croatian Science Foundation and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, https://pdb.irb.hr/project/3874).

She defended her doctoral thesis Collocations as element of lexical competence in Croatian as L2 mentored by Assistant Professor Liidija Cvikić, PhD on 21 July 2016. She has been actively participating in academic and professional conferences in Croatia and abroad and published one monograph and several academic papers (bibliography: https://www.bib.irb.hr/pregled/profil/33667). Since March 2017 she is participating in UNIC - European University of Post-Industrial Cities network. In September 2019 she was an invited guest speaker for students of German Studies participating in the “Teaching and learning in a performative way: drama-based pedagogy for German as a foreign language teaching” at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Her main research interests include acquisition of Croatian as first and second language (vocabulary learning strategies, foreign language anxiety, collocations, corpus analysis, writing, reading, and listening in foreign language, etc.)

According to the decision of the Council for the field of humanities and social sciences, she was appointed Assistant Professor in the scientific discipline of humanities, field of philology, branch Croatian Studies (Class: 640-02/20-3/144; No: 380-3/4-21-0002, 20 January 2021). According to the decision of the Scientific Field Committee for Humanities she was appointed Research Associate in the scientific discipline of humanities, field of philology (Class: UP/I-640-03/17-01/731, No: 355-06-04-17-0002, 18 September 2017).

She took part in Studyportals Academy Introduction to International Marketing and Recruitment at the University of Zagreb, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Exploring the Mental Lexicon summer school in Dubrovnik, and participated in the 1st symposium First and foreign language in kindergarten age organized by the Department for Early Language Learning.

She is a member of the Croatian Philological Association, Croatian Applied Linguistics Society, and the Slavic Linguistic Society. During 2012 she was the secretary of the international academic conference Croatian as second and foreign language (IV. HIDIS)  that took place in Zagreb. From 2013 to 2020 she was a member of the organization board of the Professional and Scientific Symposium for Lectors of Croatian as a Second and Foreign Language taking place in Zagreb.

Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuti su i ustrojeni 16. studenoga 1992., isprva samo kao dvosemestralni Sveučilišni komparativni studij hrvatske filozofije i društva. Taj je program potom preoblikovan u program redovitog četverogodišnjeg studija.
