Description:
Sleep is one of the fundamental biological processes, playing a crucial role in an individual?s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of sleep represents an essential competency for future psychologists. The aim of this course is to equip students with the knowledge to understand the theoretical foundations and current findings in the psychology of sleep, with a particular emphasis on the physiological processes underlying sleep, the regulatory mechanisms of sleep and wakefulness, and approaches to measuring and assessing sleep processes. Through the course content, students will become familiar with the most common sleep disorders, the characteristics of sleep in specific populations, as well as evidence-based psychological interventions aimed at improving sleep quality across different populations.
Learning outcomes:
  1. Understand the role of homeostatic and circadian processes in the regulation of sleep and wakefulness.
