The research group will focus on examining several important topics that emerged during critical periods of contemporary Croatian history, which have remained insufficiently explored and have been interpreted in contradictory ways in scholarly literature and other forms of public discourse. The topics to be addressed are: the role of the leading figures of the National Council of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs (Narodno vijeće SHS) in the dismantling of the Croatian Home Guard; the role of the repressive apparatus of the Second Yugoslavia in post-war crimes, in the suppression of the Croatian Spring, and in the events of the late 1980s and early 1990s; and the cooperation of the institutions of the Republic of Croatia with the Hague Tribunal (ICTY) and interpretations of the Homeland War. These topics will be explored through presentations and discussion, as well as by working with relevant historical sources in the Croatian State Archives and on the website of the Hague Tribunal. Teaching is delivered in the following forms: problem-oriented introductory lectures and discussion, a workshop at the Croatian State Archives, and a final written paper based on archival materials. |
