All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the historical development of the province of Dalmatia from the collapse of the Venetian Republic in 1797 to the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in 1918. Students will be introduced to the constitutional position of Dalmatia, external influences that conditioned the development of the province, economic and demographic characteristics, and fundamental conflicts on the political stage of Dalmatia arising from different social interests and mutually opposing national-integration ideologies that dynamized political development.

The course will provide the necessary level of knowledge to understand the historical development of Dalmatia in a diachronic sequence that connects the early modern era and the modern era. It will enable an understanding of economic, demographic, social, and political relations in the province, and an understanding of the development of strong Dalmatian political-national particularism in light of the emergence of modern national-integration ideologies.

Course content:
1. Introductory lecture: methodology, tasks and student obligations
2. The collapse of the Venetian Republic and the First Austrian Administration in Dalmatia 1797 - 1805/6.
3. French Administration in Dalmatia 1805/6 - 1813/15.
4. The pre-March period of the Second Austrian Administration in Dalmatia and the preparatory revival period 1815 - 1848/49.
5. The economic rise of the province during Bach's absolutism and the restoration of constitutionality 1860/61.
6. The establishment of Dalmatian parliamentarism and the formation of the first political blocs in the form of populists and autonomists
7. Populists' conquest of power, political-national differentiation and the period of "crumb politics"
8. The political-national dimension of the activities of the Orthodox clergy in Dalmatia and the formation of the Serbian Party 1879/80.
9. The penetration of the Rightist ideas into the province and the establishment of a unified Party of Rights in Dalmatia in 1894.
10. The collapse of viticulture and sailing shipping and the mass emigration of Dalmatians to overseas countries
11. The politics of the New Course and the evolution of the Dalmatian Rightists towards political Yugoslavism
12. The political activities of the Croatian People's Progressive Party and the workers' movement in Dalmatia
13. The rise of cultural life in the province and the activities of the Society of Croatian Artists 'Medulić'
14. World War I, the collapse of Austria-Hungary and the Yugoslav epilogue in Dalmatia
15. Discussion and revision for the exam
