Description:
The goal of this course is to introduce the students to basic aspects of Ancient Greek culture, from Minoan to Roman times. This gives them insight to the influence that the Greek culture profoundly exerted on the Roman, and indirectly onto our own ie. the entire Western civilisation, in almost every aspect of life. We shall be looking into Greek heritage in the fields of religion, philosophy, science, literature, education, social, political and domestic life, etc. Students will be acquainted with these influences through the lectures as well as by the text examples read during the class. Obligations of the students include: regular attendance, preparation and discussion of selected texts and passing the exam after the semester has finished.
