PristupačnostThe Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb will offer courses through the Virtual Campus of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC), providing students from partner universities with new opportunities for international and interdisciplinary education.
UNIC is an alliance of ten European universities committed to promoting mobility, inclusion, and societal impact through education, research, and community engagement. The UNIC Virtual Campus is a shared digital environment that connects students, teaching staff, and educational content across partner universities.
The Faculty of Croatian Studies will offer students from UNIC member universities a total of eight courses, five of which are delivered by the Department of Sociology: Criminology of Bullying, Sociology of Domestic Violence, Sociology of Development, Research, Measurement and Restraining Corruption i Sociology of Social Control and Police.
In addition to the courses offered by the Department of Sociology, three other courses will be available through the Virtual Campus: Advertising in Public Relations, Integrated Approach to Understanding Psychopathology, and Global Antiquities.
Participation in the UNIC Virtual Campus brings numerous opportunities for both teaching staff and students. For teaching staff, it provides an opportunity to teach in an international and multicultural environment, exchange knowledge with students from different European countries, develop digital competencies, and apply contemporary approaches to virtual teaching.
Students, meanwhile, can take courses offered by other European universities without the need for physical mobility, develop international and intercultural competencies, and connect with peers from other countries. In this way, the concept of "internationalisation at home" is put into practice, making international experience accessible to a larger number of students.
At the same time, the Virtual Campus creates additional opportunities for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the development of joint research activities among the members of the European university alliance.
