The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.
Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov, a lecturer at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, has been appointed a member of the newly established international Editorial Review Board of European Societies, Europe’s leading sociology journal and the official journal of the European Sociological Association.
European Societies publishes contemporary sociological research focusing on European societies and the key social, economic, and political challenges facing contemporary Europe. The journal is widely recognized for its high academic standards, international visibility, and rigorous double-anonymized peer-review process.
Since 2025, the journal has been published by MIT Press, one of the world’s most prestigious academic publishers. It is indexed in the most important international databases, including Web of Science, SCOPUS, Sociological Abstracts, and the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences.
The journal brings together leading sociologists from across Europe and around the world and serves as one of the principal venues for the publication and evaluation of contemporary sociological research. Ivan Perkov’s appointment to the international Editorial Review Board represents recognition of his scholarly achievements and further strengthens the international academic visibility of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies.
