The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.
Professor Aleksej Kišjuhas from the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad visited the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, as part of an academic mobility project, from Monday, April 20, to Wednesday, April 22.
On the final day of his visit, he delivered an engaging and well-attended lecture to undergraduate sociology students on the history of the institutionalization of sociology at European universities, which sparked a lively discussion.
During his visit, he also met with the Vice-Dean for Research, Associate Professor Marko Jerković, in the presence of the host, Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov. On that occasion, both sides expressed a mutual interest in strengthening cooperation between the Faculty of Croatian Studies and the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad.
As part of his stay in Zagreb, Professor Kišjuhas also gave a lecture and participated in a discussion at the Association of University Teachers and Scholars on Tuesday, April 21, addressing the current socio-political situation in Serbia, with particular emphasis on the role of students in contemporary social processes.
Professor Kišjuhas is a full professor of sociology, an award-winning author of numerous scientific publications, a respected public intellectual, and a long-time columnist for the influential newspaper Danas.
