The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.
On Tuesday, March 10, a meeting was held at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, with students of the first year of the graduate sociology programme within the course Student Internship. During the meeting, partner organizations where students will complete their internships were presented. After learning about the organizations and the tasks students may perform, all 29 students enrolled in the course selected the organization in which they will carry out their internship.
During the meeting, mentors from the Department of Sociology presented the organizations hosting the internships and briefly described the activities and tasks students will be involved in. The mentors participating in the internship programme are Irena Cajner Mraović, Marica Marinović Golubić, Dario Pavić, Erik Brezovec, Ivan Perkov, and Ana Marija Dunaj.
The student internship is carried out in cooperation with several partner organizations from the public, civil, and research sectors, including Hendal, Ipsos, Matica hrvatska, the Croatian Institute of Public Health, the Croatian Museum of Naïve Art, the Croatian Association of Security Managers, the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, the association Hrvatska pomaže, and the Association of Juvenile Judges, Family Judges and Other Experts for Children and Youth.
Among the organizations offering placements, the greatest interest among students this year was for completing their internship at Matica hrvatska.
The Student Internship course has been offered in the first year of the graduate sociology programme since the 2024/2025 academic year, in the summer semester. Its goal is to enable students to gain practical experience in a professional environment and to connect theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies with real work experience. The internship comprises 30 hours, during which students keep an activity log and prepare a final reflection on the experience and its contribution to their professional development.
