Sociology Study Programme of the Faculty of Croatian Studies Presented to Students of Krapina Secondary School

On Thursday, January 29, secondary school students in Krapina were introduced to the Sociology study programme of the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, as part of a higher education institutions presentation for final-year students of Krapina Secondary School. The event was intended for graduating students who are facing an important decision regarding the continuation of their education.

The presentation to prospective students was delivered by Dr. Ana Marija Dunaj, Assistant at the Department of Sociology and the Department of Communication Studies, who introduced the Faculty’s study programmes, including the Sociology programme.

The Assistant explained what sociology studies and noted that the programme is intended for young people interested in topics such as politics, media, culture, social inequalities, and identity, as well as for those who wish to develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

Particular attention was given to employment opportunities after graduation, which include positions in market and public opinion research agencies, consulting firms, local and national government bodies, non-governmental organisations, media, and educational institutions.

Students were also informed about the admission requirements for the Sociology programme, which include secondary school grades (30%), Croatian language at A level (35%), Mathematics at B level (15%), a foreign language at A level (15%), and an elective subject (5%), with no additional entrance examinations. At the Faculty of Croatian Studies information stand, graduating students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive first-hand information, primarily about the Sociology study programme, admission requirements, and employment prospects, while undecided students sought general information about studying and student life at the Borongaj campus.

Participation in such activities highlights the importance of direct communication with prospective students and contributes to better informing secondary school students about the opportunities offered by the Sociology study programme at the Faculty of Croatian Studies.
