Christmas and New Year's greetings from the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Croatian Studies

Dear students,

esteemed colleagues,

esteemed associates,

The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Croatian Studies, wishes you a Merry Christmas and a peaceful, healthy and successful 2026.

The year that is coming to an end was marked by numerous teaching, scientific and professional activities that confirm the strong role of sociology in understanding contemporary social challenges. The Department's teachers participated in domestic and international conferences and professional meetings dedicated to migration, security, digital society, artificial intelligence, environmental challenges and social cohesion.

During the year, international teaching and scientific engagements were achieved, including the participation of the Department's teachers in an international conference at the University of Cambridge, where the teachers also participated in the organisation of the conference itself. We also had a faculty exchange at Indiana State University in the United States and taught as part of the graduate sociology program at the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany.

Our faculty and associates actively participated in the public sphere throughout the year through expert analyses and media appearances, contributing to an informed public debate on social divisions, violence, migration, youth, digital technologies, and trust in institutions.

Student work and excellence were once again recognised by the awarding of three Rector's Awards to sociology students. Throughout the year, students independently conducted research – from developing a research idea to analysing and interpreting results – as part of their sociology coursework. Through SOC-MEETUPs, guest lectures, study visits, and collaboration with alumni, we further strengthened the connection between sociology studies and the labour market and practice.

We are also proud of the scientific achievements of our teachers and associates, the defence of doctoral dissertations, published works, and the development of new educational and lifelong programs that confirm the Department's interdisciplinary and socially responsible approach.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Department of Sociology's work and development through their knowledge, engagement, and support. We look forward to continued cooperation and new challenges in the coming year.

The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Croatian Studies wishes you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026!
