Petar Šarić graduated in Sociology and Philosophy from the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, where he conducts interdisciplinary research in the social sciences and humanities within the field of media and communication studies. He works as a media analysis and AI technology specialist at MediaNet d.o.o., where he develops solutions for applying artificial intelligence to qualitative content analysis, conducts market research, and prepares media reports for political and corporate stakeholders.
His doctoral project at the University of Ljubljana examines the representation of political actors and institutions in the Croatian media landscape, with a particular focus on representatives and institutions of the European Union. The project aims to contribute to methodological advances in the discipline by developing a scientifically reliable approach to applying AI technologies to qualitative analysis of large datasets.
Beyond his academic and professional work, Petar is committed to education and the promotion of social values. As an educator with World Youth Alliance Croatia, he delivers educational programmes on topics such as human dignity, the inherent value of human life, and family values. He is also a member of several other proactive organisations, including Matica hrvatska and the Centre for Public Policy and Economic Analysis (CEA).
Petar is also one of the organisers and speakers at the Atlas conferences, a project initiated by students of the Faculty of Croatian Studies gathered around the Studia Croatica association. The first Atlas conference addressed the broader theme of modernity and responsibility, while the second Atlas conference, held in 2024, explored transhumanism and technology. The vision is for Atlas to grow beyond its student origins and develop into a formal organisation that provides a platform for critical reflection on contemporary social challenges.
Petar is the author of numerous academic and professional publications in the fields of sociology of media, political sociology, and cultural theory. His most significant recent publications include the GEO-POWER-EU research report on perceptions of foreign policy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership countries, as well as a paper on cultural entropy and global society co-authored with Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov. In his free time, he also writes articles on social and political issues for the Heretica platform. His Master’s thesis focused on self-presentation on social media, examining differences between asynchronous and synchronous self-presentation in physical and virtual environments.
Reflecting on his own student experience, Petar emphasises the importance of connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications. This is why he now approaches both the development of software solutions for media data analysis and conference presentations on the philosophical implications of technological development with equal passion. For him, sociology is not merely an academic discipline, but a source of inspiration for understanding contemporary society and a motivation for actively shaping it. His story illustrates how a contemporary sociologist can be both a theorist and a practitioner.
