Josip Ježovita: From Sociology Student to University Lecturer and Researcher

Assistant Professor Josip Ježovita, PhD, is currently an Assistant Professor at the University Department of Sociology at the Catholic University of Croatia in Zagreb, where he teaches at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. He graduated from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, and earned his PhD in 2020 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where he defended his dissertation entitled “Changes in the Methodological Characteristics of Research Papers in Croatian Sociology.”

Reflecting on his student years, Ježovita emphasises how studying sociology provided him with a strong analytical framework:

“Studying sociology helped me develop critical thinking and the ability to examine social phenomena from different perspectives. During my studies, I acquired a solid foundation in methodology and statistics, which are now indispensable to my research and teaching. Thanks to this experience, I am able to encourage students to think analytically and apply scientific methods to understanding society.”

Before joining the Catholic University of Croatia, he worked as an external associate at the Faculty of Croatian Studies and as an expert adviser for analytics and statistics at the Croatian Employment Service.

His research interests include the development of research methodology, instrument validation, and the use of new data sources, with a particular focus on statistics, analytical sociology, the sociology of technology, and the sociology of knowledge and science. He teaches courses in methodology and statistics and actively participates in a number of national and international research projects focusing on social change and the application of digital technologies in education.

He is the author of more than twenty scientific publications and has participated in numerous national and international conferences. Through his research and teaching, Assistant Professor Ježovita demonstrates that the knowledge and skills acquired at the Faculty of Croatian Studies provide an excellent foundation for a successful academic and research career.
