International Conference “Sainthood and Knowledge” Held at the University of Mostar

The international conference “Sainthood and Knowledge” was held in Mostar on 22 and 23 October 2026, bringing together scholars from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and Slovenia.

The conference was the result of long-standing academic collaboration between six institutions affiliated with four universities: the University of Mostar (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences), the University of Zagreb (Faculty of Croatian Studies and Catholic Faculty of Theology), the Croatian Institute of History in Zagreb, and the Universities of Pécs and Szeged (their respective history institutes).

The Faculty of Croatian Studies was represented on the conference organising committee by Associate Professor Marko Jerković, PhD, and Associate Professor Lucija Krešić Nacevski, PhD. In addition, Associate Professor Maja Matasović, PhD, and Associate Professor Željka Metesi Deronjić, PhD, delivered presentations at the conference.

The aim of the conference was to explore, through a multidisciplinary approach, how knowledge about saints was produced, disseminated and authorised in medieval and early modern Europe, and how such knowledge shaped the social and cultural life of the period.
