The international multidisciplinary academic conference “Sainthood and Knowledge” will take place on 22 and 23 October 2026 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Mostar. The Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, is one of the co-organisers of the conference, which will bring together scholars from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Hungary.
The conference will explore how knowledge about saints was produced, transmitted and validated in medieval and early modern Europe. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach to the study of sainthood, bringing together social, ecclesiastical and cultural history, philosophy, philology and anthropology. Particular emphasis will be placed on the ways in which sainthood was constructed and represented, as well as its role in social and cultural life.
The Faculty of Croatian Studies will be represented by Associate Professor Marko Jerković, PhD, Associate Professor Željka Metesi Deronjić, PhD, Associate Professor Lucija Krešić Nacevski, PhD, and Associate Professor Maja Matasović, PhD, who will present research in the fields of medieval and early modern history, philosophy, hagiography and Croatian Latinity.
