Professor Šime Demo, PhD, participated in the conference “Digital Neo-Latin Studies: Ideas and Perspectives”, held in Aarhus, Denmark, on 24 and 25 September 2025.

The conference was organised by Marianne Pade, Johann Ramminger and Šime Demo, with Aarhus University and the Centre for Danish Neo-Latin serving as the host institutions.

This highly specialised conference brought together approximately twenty leading experts in the application of modern technologies to Neo-Latin studies. The presentations covered a broad range of topics, including optical character recognition (OCR), components of the Wikimedia ecosystem, word embeddings and large language models (LLMs).

As part of the conference, Professor Demo organised and conducted a workshop entitled “Using MediaWiki as a Neo-Latinist”, which was open to students and academic staff.

Drawing on his experience in developing the database for the research project “Early Modern Latin Stone Inscriptions in the Churches of Southern Istria: Documentation, Analysis and Contextualisation” (Croatian Science Foundation, IP-2022-10-5068), he introduced participants to the capabilities of MediaWiki and demonstrated how the platform could be applied to their own research projects.
